The Chronicler is closing the first chapter of his genealogy, which traces humanity from Adam through Noah's sons to Abraham and then down the line of Esau, also called Edom. Verses 43 through 54 list the kings and chiefs who ruled Edom before Israel had a king, ending with Magdiel and Iram.
