1 Chronicles 11:4 meaning and explanation

Then David and all the Israelites marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus), where the Jebusites inhabited the land.

1 Chronicles 11:4, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The Chronicler reports that after David was anointed king over all Israel at Hebron, he led the whole army to Jerusalem, still called Jebus, where the Jebusites lived. The city sat outside any tribe's allotted territory, so taking it gave David a neutral capital that belonged to no tribal faction and could unite the northern and southern tribes around one throne.
