1 Chronicles 5:20 meaning and explanation

And because they cried out to God in battle, they were helped against their enemies, and the Hagrites and all their allies were delivered into their hands. Because they put their trust in God, He answered their prayers.

1 Chronicles 5:20, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The Chronicler is recounting the battle of the Reubenites, Gadites and half-tribe of Manasseh against the Hagrites and their allies, a conflict he places in the days of Saul. Outnumbered and in the thick of fighting, the warriors cried out to God, and the parallel between crying out and trusting is deliberate: prayer and faith are two sides of the same dependence.
