1 Corinthians 3:4 meaning and explanation

For when one of you says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere men?

1 Corinthians 3:4, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is writing to the church in Corinth, where believers had split into rival groups claiming loyalty to particular leaders. In verse 4 he quotes their slogans directly: one says “I follow Paul,” another “I follow Apollos.” Paul and Apollos were real missionaries, not rivals, but the Corinthians had turned them into party leaders.
