1 Corinthians 7:18 meaning and explanation

Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man still uncircumcised when called? He should not be circumcised.

1 Corinthians 7:18, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is answering the Corinthian believers' questions about marriage and singleness, and here he widens the point to circumcision. Some in the church apparently thought converts should change their outward status to match their new faith, so a circumcised Jewish believer might try to reverse the mark, and an uncircumcised Gentile might seek it.
