1 John 2:15 meaning and explanation

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:15, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

John, writing as a pastor to a congregation troubled by teachers who had left them, warns against loving "the world." In John's letters the word kosmos usually means the ordered system of human life that sets itself against God, not the created earth or the people in it. The next verse names its pull: fleshly desire, the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life.
