1 Kings 10:27 meaning and explanation

The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar as abundant as sycamore in the foothills.

1 Kings 10:27, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The narrator is summarizing Solomon's wealth in Jerusalem during his reign, after the queen of Sheba's visit and the account of his gold shields, ivory throne and annual tribute. Silver, normally a measure of value, is so plentiful it is treated like ordinary stone, and cedar, the costly wood used in the temple and palace, is as common as the sycamore fig that grows freely in the low hills.
