Take with you ten loaves of bread, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the boy.”

1 Kings 14:3, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jeroboam, the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel, sends his disguised wife to the prophet Ahijah at Shiloh to ask about their sick son. The gifts she carries, ten loaves, some cakes and a jar of honey, are a modest offering brought to a prophet, not a bribe; ordinary people approached men of God with such provisions.
