1 Kings 16:13 meaning and explanation

This happened because of all the sins Baasha and his son Elah had committed and had caused Israel to commit, provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger with their worthless idols.

1 Kings 16:13, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The narrator pauses after Zimri wipes out Baasha's household to say why it happened. Baasha had been raised from obscurity to Israel's throne, yet he kept Jeroboam's calf worship and led the nation into the same sin, and his son Elah continued it.
