1 Kings 18:19 meaning and explanation
Now summon all Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel, along with the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah who eat at Jezebel’s table.”
1 Kings 18:19, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Elijah is speaking to King Ahab after years of drought, and he tells the king to gather the whole nation plus the prophets of Baal and Asherah at Mount Carmel. The phrase "who eat at Jezebel's table" means these prophets were fed and supported by the queen, showing how deeply the royal court had backed Baal worship.
