1 Kings 7:19 meaning and explanation
And the capitals atop the pillars in the portico were shaped like lilies, four cubits high.
1 Kings 7:19, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The narrator is describing the bronze pillars Huram of Tyre cast for Solomon's temple, and verse 19 focuses on the capitals, the decorative tops of those pillars, standing in the portico. The Hebrew word for lily, shushan, names a flower motif also used for the rim of the bronze Sea, so the temple's metalwork carries a garden image.
