1 Samuel 17:38 meaning and explanation
Then Saul clothed David in his own tunic, put a bronze helmet on his head, and dressed him in armor.
1 Samuel 17:38, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Saul has just heard David volunteer to face Goliath, and he answers by dressing the young shepherd in his own royal tunic and armor. It is a gesture of goodwill and a sign that Saul still sees this contest in ordinary military terms: the champion of Israel should look like a soldier.
