But Saul sent the messengers back to see David and told them, “Bring him up to me in his bed so I can kill him.”
1 Samuel 19:15, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Saul is speaking to his messengers after Michal has told them David is ill in bed. The king's order shows how far his jealousy has gone: he will not let sickness delay a killing, and he commands that David be carried to him on the bed so he can finish it himself.
