1 Samuel 28:3 meaning and explanation
Now by this time Samuel had died, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, his own city. And Saul had removed the mediums and spiritists from the land.
1 Samuel 28:3, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The narrator pauses the Philistine crisis to set the scene: Samuel, the prophet who anointed Saul and later rebuked him, has died and been buried at Ramah, and Israel has finished mourning. The second sentence reminds us that Saul had purged mediums and spiritists from the land, in keeping with the law's ban on consulting the dead.
