1 Samuel 7:3 meaning and explanation
Then Samuel said to all the house of Israel, “If you are returning to the LORD with all your hearts, then rid yourselves of the foreign gods and Ashtoreths among you, prepare your hearts for the LORD, and serve Him only. And He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”

Explanation preview
Samuel speaks to all Israel after twenty years in which the ark stayed at Kiriath-jearim and the people mourned under Philistine pressure. His words describe what a real return to God involves: putting away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths, preparing the heart, and serving the LORD alone.
