1 Timothy 1:2 meaning and explanation
To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Timothy 1:2, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Paul opens his letter by naming himself as an apostle of Christ Jesus and then addressing Timothy directly. Timothy was a younger coworker whom Paul had left in Ephesus to correct false teaching, and the word "true" here translates the Greek word gnesios, meaning genuine or legitimate, the same term used for a child born in wedlock.
