1 Timothy 3:16 meaning and explanation
By common confession, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was proclaimed among the nations, was believed in throughout the world, was taken up in glory.
1 Timothy 3:16, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Paul closes his instructions on church leadership with what he calls the mystery of godliness, likely an early Christian hymn. The BSB reads “He,” though some early manuscripts have “God.” Its six lines trace Jesus from incarnation to exaltation: appearing in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed in throughout the world, and taken up in glory.
