Explanation preview
The Chronicler lists Asa's fighting force as part of his portrait of a king who began his reign by removing foreign altars and calling Judah to seek the LORD. The numbers, 300,000 from Judah with large shields and spears and 280,000 from Benjamin with small shields and bows, present a formidable army, and the Hebrew gibborim means capable warriors.
