After Amaziah defeated the Edomites, he brought the gods of Seir back to Jerusalem and worshipped them. The LORD's anger burned, and he sent a prophet with a pointed question: "Why have you sought this people's gods, which could not deliver them from your hand?" The irony is sharp, since those gods failed to save their own people from Amaziah.
