2 Corinthians 6:18 meaning and explanation

And: “I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

2 Corinthians 6:18, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is quoting and blending Old Testament promises, chiefly from 2 Samuel 7:14 and related texts, as the climax of his appeal to the Corinthians to separate from idolatry and be fully devoted to God. Having called them to come out and be separate, he ends not with a demand but with a gift: the Lord Almighty himself pledges a family relationship, Father to sons and daughters.
