2 Kings 21:13 meaning and explanation
I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the plumb line used against the house of Ahab, and I will wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes out a bowl—wiping it and turning it upside down.
2 Kings 21:13, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
These words come from the LORD through His prophets, spoken to Judah after Manasseh's long reign of idolatry, which the chapter has just described. The measuring line and plumb line are builders' tools, used here as images of exact judgment: God had measured Samaria, the northern kingdom, and found it wanting, and Jerusalem would be measured the same way.
