Explanation preview
Josiah, king of Judah, is purging the land of idolatry after the Book of the Covenant was found in the temple and the people renewed their covenant with the LORD. This verse reports his action against shrines on the hill east of Jerusalem, south of the Mount of Corruption, a name the text gives to the ridge defiled by these sanctuaries.
