2 Kings 23:18 meaning and explanation

“Let him rest,” said Josiah. “Do not let anyone disturb his bones.” So they left his bones undisturbed, along with those of the prophet who had come from Samaria.

2 Kings 23:18, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Josiah is clearing away the idolatrous altar at Bethel, and he learns that a nearby tomb belongs to the man of God from Judah who long before had prophesied these very events (1 Kings 13). Rather than disturb the bones, Josiah orders the grave left in peace, and the prophet from Samaria buried beside him is spared too.
