2 Samuel 16:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

David is fleeing Jerusalem barefoot and weeping after his son Absalom's coup (2 Samuel 15:30), and the road takes him past Bahurim, a Benjaminite town. Shimei son of Gera belongs to the clan of Saul, the king David replaced, so his curses carry old tribal grievance as well as grief over the present collapse.
