2 Samuel 20:1 meaning and explanation
Now a worthless man named Sheba son of Bichri, a Benjamite, happened to be there, and he blew the ram’s horn and shouted: “We have no share in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Every man to his tent, O Israel!”
2 Samuel 20:1, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The scene follows Absalom's failed rebellion, and the narrator introduces Sheba with the Hebrew phrase ish beliyyaal, a "worthless" or "good-for-nothing" man, a stock label for troublemakers. Sheba, a Benjamite, sounds the ram's horn and repeats the old tribal cry from 2 Samuel 19:43, rejecting David's claim on the northern tribes.
