2 Samuel 9:3, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

David is now king over a settled Israel, and he asks Saul's old servant Ziba whether any of Saul's family remains so he can show chesed, the Hebrew word for covenant kindness or loyal love, here called the kindness of God. David had sworn to Jonathan that he would not cut off his kindness from Jonathan's house, so this question keeps an old promise.
