2 Samuel 9:6 meaning and explanation
And when Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he fell facedown in reverence. Then David said, “Mephibosheth!” “I am your servant,” he replied.
2 Samuel 9:6, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Mephibosheth was Jonathan's son and Saul's grandson, and he had been crippled in both feet since childhood (2 Samuel 4:4). In the ancient Near East a new king often eliminated the surviving males of the previous dynasty, so his falling facedown before David is an act of homage from a man who has every reason to fear.
