Paul, writing from prison in Rome near the end of his life, closes this section by praying that the Lord will show mercy to Onesiphorus "on that day," the day of Christ's return and judgment. Onesiphorus had searched for Paul in Rome and was not ashamed of his chains, and he had served Paul earlier in Ephesus, where Timothy likely knew the family.
