Acts 13:34 meaning and explanation

In fact, God raised Him from the dead, never to see decay. As He has said: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’

Acts 13:34, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is preaching in the synagogue at Pisidian Antioch, and he has just argued from Psalm 16 that David's body decayed in the tomb while the promised Holy One did not. Here he adds a second scriptural proof, quoting Isaiah 55:3, where God promises David "holy and sure blessings." Paul reads that promise as fulfilled in the resurrection: the risen Jesus is the enduring gift God swore to David, and because He lives forever, the blessings He gives never fail.
