Acts 19:13 meaning and explanation
Now there were some itinerant Jewish exorcists who tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those with evil spirits. They would say, “I bind you by Jesus, whom Paul proclaims.”
Acts 19:13, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
These itinerant Jewish exorcists traveled from place to place offering to cast out evil spirits, and in Ephesus they had seen Paul's success. They tried to command a spirit by invoking the name of Jesus as a formula, adding "whom Paul proclaims," perhaps to borrow Paul's authority without knowing Jesus themselves.
