Acts 3:1 meaning and explanation

One afternoon Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

Acts 3:1, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Peter and John, leaders of the young church in Jerusalem, go up to the temple at the ninth hour, about three in the afternoon, one of the set times of prayer and sacrifice. Luke, writing Acts, notes the detail because it sets the scene: the apostles remain faithful Jews, worshiping at the temple, and their destination places them at the Beautiful Gate where a lame man begs.
