Acts 4:11 meaning and explanation

This Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’

Acts 4:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, is answering the Sanhedrin, the ruling council that has just asked by what power he healed the lame man. He quotes Psalm 118:22, where the stone the builders rejected becomes the cornerstone, and applies it to Jesus: the leaders who should have recognized God's chosen one instead rejected and handed him over to death, yet God raised him and made him the foundation of his saving work.
