Colossians 3:5 meaning and explanation

Put to death, therefore, the components of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry.

Colossians 3:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is writing to believers in Colossae who have already been raised with Christ (verses 1 to 4), and now he draws the practical conclusion. Because their life is hidden with Christ, they must actively put to death, a decisive word for killing, not merely restraining, the practices that belong to their former earthly nature.
