Daniel 11 is a long prophecy delivered to Daniel by an angel, tracing conflicts between the kings of the South (Egypt) and the North (Syria) and culminating in a proud king who exalts himself above every god. In verse 44 this king, already sweeping through nations, is suddenly alarmed by reports from the east and north, and he charges out in fury to destroy many, devoting them to destruction, that is, placing them under a ban of total judgment.
