Nebuchadnezzar is speaking to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, the three Jewish exiles he had appointed to manage the province of Babylon. Their accusers have just named them, and the furious king puts the charge to them directly, asking whether it is true that they do not serve his gods or worship the golden statue he set up.
