Daniel 9:19 meaning and explanation

O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For Your sake, O my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people bear Your name.”

Daniel 9:19, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Daniel is praying in Babylon, near the end of the seventy years Jeremiah foretold, and he has just confessed the sins of his people and pleaded for God's mercy. The verse is the climax of that prayer: four urgent appeals, listen, forgive, hear, act, each addressed to the Lord, followed by a plea not to delay.
