Moses is speaking to the Israelites on the plains of Moab, retelling how they had once stood at Kadesh-barnea, poised to enter the promised land. The spies' report had melted the people's courage, and Moses answered their fear with this assurance: the LORD their God goes before them and will fight for them, just as they had seen Him do in Egypt.
