Deuteronomy 12:2 meaning and explanation
Destroy completely all the places where the nations you are dispossessing have served their gods—atop the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree.
Deuteronomy 12:2, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Moses is speaking to the Israelites on the plains of Moab, just before they cross the Jordan to take possession of Canaan. The command concerns the Canaanite worship sites, not the people themselves in this verse: the high places, hills and leafy trees where the nations had served their gods.
