Deuteronomy 13:16 meaning and explanation
And you are to gather all its plunder in the middle of the public square, and completely burn the city and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. The city must remain a mound of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.
Deuteronomy 13:16, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Moses is speaking to Israel on the plains of Moab, describing the case of a whole city that has turned to other gods after thorough investigation. Verses 15 and 16 direct that everything in it be devoted to destruction, with the plunder burned in the public square as a whole burnt offering, the Hebrew olah, an offering going up in smoke.
