Deuteronomy 15:9 meaning and explanation
Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought in your heart: “The seventh year, the year of release, is near,” so that you look upon your poor brother begrudgingly and give him nothing. He will cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
Deuteronomy 15:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Moses is speaking to Israel on the plains of Moab, just before they enter the land. The law of release cancels debts every seventh year, and verse 9 names a quiet temptation: as that year approaches, a lender might calculate that a loan made now will never be repaid, and so refuse a poor brother.
