Deuteronomy 16:11 meaning and explanation
and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God in the place He will choose as a dwelling for His Name—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the Levite within your gates, as well as the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widows among you.
Deuteronomy 16:11, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Moses is speaking to Israel on the plains of Moab, instructing them about the Feast of Weeks, the second of three annual pilgrim feasts. The joy commanded here is not private but shared, and it is deliberately inclusive: household members, servants, Levites, foreigners, orphans and widows all eat together before the LORD at the central sanctuary.
