Deuteronomy 2:22 meaning and explanation

just as He had done for the descendants of Esau who lived in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.

Deuteronomy 2:22, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Moses is retelling Israel's wilderness years to the generation about to enter Canaan. In this parenthetical note he compares God's gift of land to the Ammonites with what he did for Esau's descendants in Seir: the Horites were removed before them, and the Edomites settled there and remained "to this day." The point is not Israel's privilege but God's wider governance.
