Deuteronomy 9:28 meaning and explanation

Otherwise, those in the land from which You brought us out will say, ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land He had promised them, and because He hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’

Deuteronomy 9:28, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Moses speaks to Israel on the plains of Moab, retelling his prayer after the golden calf. In verse 28 he gives God a reason to spare the people: if they die in the wilderness, the Egyptians will say the LORD was unable to bring them into the land, or that He hated them and led them out to kill them.
