Ecclesiastes 5:9 meaning and explanation
The produce of the earth is taken by all; the king himself profits from the fields.
Ecclesiastes 5:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The Preacher, a wisdom teacher in Jerusalem, is surveying how power and money work "under the sun." Verse 9 is a difficult Hebrew line, but in context it follows his warning not to be shocked by oppression, since officials are watched by higher officials. The point seems to be that the land's produce supports everyone, and even the king depends on cultivated fields.
