Esther 1:4, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The narrator reports that Xerxes, the Persian king ruling from Susa, spent half a year showing off his wealth to his officials, military leaders and provincial nobles. This feast in his third year opens the book of Esther and sets the stage: a vast empire, an absolute ruler, and a court where display and status matter enormously.
