Esther 3:1, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The narrator reports that Xerxes promoted Haman son of Hammedatha to the highest rank among his officials, sometime after Esther became queen. The title "Agagite" links Haman to Agag, the Amalekite king whom Saul failed to destroy (1 Samuel 15), setting up the old enmity between Israel and Amalek.
