Esther 3:11 meaning and explanation

“Keep your money,” said the king to Haman. “These people are given to you to do with them as you please.”

Esther 3:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Xerxes has just accepted Haman's offer of ten thousand talents of silver to destroy the Jews, and here he refuses the money while handing the people over. The king is speaking to Haman at the palace in Susa, and his words show how casually a whole population is surrendered: he asks no questions about who they are or what they have done.
