Esther 8:10 meaning and explanation

Mordecai wrote in the name of King Xerxes and sealed it with the royal signet ring. He sent the documents by mounted couriers riding on swift horses bred from the royal mares.

Esther 8:10, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Mordecai has just been given Haman's signet ring and authority, and here he writes in the king's name to counter Haman's earlier decree against the Jews. Because Persian royal decrees sealed with the signet ring could not be revoked, the king authorizes a new edict instead, permitting the Jews to defend themselves.
