Exodus 14:18 meaning and explanation

The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I am honored through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”

Exodus 14:18, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

These are the LORD's words to Moses at the sea, before the Egyptian chariots reach the trapped Israelites. God has already said He will harden Pharaoh's heart so the army pursues Israel, and verse 18 names the purpose of the coming judgment: the Egyptians themselves will come to know that the LORD is God.
