Exodus 16:31 meaning and explanation

Now the house of Israel called the bread manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey.

Exodus 16:31, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The verse comes near the end of the wilderness story in which Israel, newly freed from Egypt, grumbles for food and God provides bread from heaven each morning. Here the people give that bread its name, manna, which echoes their earlier puzzled words in verse 15, since they did not recognize what it was.
